Client: Leading U.S.-based company specializing in forged rings for industrial and aerospace applications
Year: 2024
Technology: RINGSAW | Dual vertical cutting unit system with rotating arm and spindle
Location: USA
Industry: Industrial and Aerospace
The Challenge
A well-established American forging company needed to automate the high-precision cutting of forged rings, with the following objectives:
Minimize material waste
Increase productivity without compromising quality
Cut sub-rings to exact dimensions, ready for further machining
Fully eliminate operator intervention during the cutting cycle
The customer was working with thin-walled rings and tight tolerances, intended for critical sectors such as aerospace and energy.
The Solution
Friggi supplied the RINGSAW system, custom-engineered to meet these specific requirements. The machine is equipped with:
A rotating arm for automatic loading of the raw ring and unloading of finished sub-rings
A rotating spindle to securely lock the ring during the cycle
Two high-speed bandsaws, cutting simultaneously from both sides
A fully automatic process, with no manual repositioning required
Minimal tool kerf, just 3 mm per cut
Processed dimensions:
Outer Ø: 1610 mm
Inner Ø: 1470 mm
Ring thickness: 20 mm
Productivity & Efficiency
2 rings cut every 30 minutes → 4 rings/hour
32 rings per 8-hour shift
The system allows the recovery of up to 4 additional rings per shift, thanks to optimized cycles and reduced waste
The Results
The implementation of the RINGSAW system was delivered:
Continuous and stable production with repeatable quality
Significant material savings and reduced tooling costs
Elimination of operator risk, thanks to full automation
ROI in less than 12 months, due to increased productivity and process efficiency
The client successfully integrated the RINGSAW into their production flow, gaining a system capable of handling high volumes with precision, safety, and consistency
