LARGE PLATE CUTTING | VAS OSF 14000

Large Steel Plate Sawing – 14,000 mm Length with VAS OSF Bandsaw

Sweden | Steel Service Centres

vas osf 14000

Project Overview

Client Type: Heavy Steel Fabrication

Year: 2025

Technology: VAS OSF – Vertical Bandsaw with 14,000 mm Cutting Capacity

Location: Sweden

Industry: Steel Service Centres

The Challenge

The client needed to perform longitudinal and cross cuts on large special steel plates, measuring up to 2,000 mm in width, 14,000 mm in length, and 300 mm in thickness.
The existing thermal cutting process involved high energy consumption, poor edge quality, and alteration of the material’s crystalline structure, compromising mechanical performance.
A new solution was required — one that would be robust, reliable, and high-performing, capable of:

  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Improving cut surface quality
  • Preserving the material’s structural integrity
  • Operating continuously on heavy, oversized components

The client was seeking a technology partner capable of delivering a tailor-made solution for this highly specific application.

Our Solution

To meet this challenge, we designed and built a customized version of our VAS OSF vertical bandsaw, with an exceptional cutting capacity of up to 14,000 mm.
This special configuration is the result of our ability to adapt proven technologies, developed through decades of experience in cold cutting, to create tailor-made solutions for demanding industrial needs.

The machine was engineered to provide:

  • Structural strength to handle extremely large and heavy plates
  • High-precision performance for both longitudinal and cross cuts
  • Advanced process control with full automation
  • Cold cutting, eliminating thermal effects and ensuring clean edges and optimal surface quality

The result is a unique, high-performance machine, fully integrated into the client’s production process.

The Results

The implementation of the VAS OSF delivered clear and strategic operational benefits:

  • No thermal alteration of the material, full preservation of structural properties
  • Lower energy costs compared to thermal cutting methods
  • Superior edge finish, with reduced need for post-processing
  • High reliability and continuous performance, even on demanding production batches
  • A cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable process

The client found in Friggi a flexible and experienced technology partner, capable of transforming complex requirements into high-performance, tailor-made solutions, once again confirming the value of our custom engineering approach.
